Volunteer Work at an Ecological Farm
(Costa Rica)
My stay in a self-sustaining community was a very beautiful and intense life experience! It is a very quiet and wonderful place far away from any civilization, directly in the mountains of Puntarenas. That is where I worked 3 weeks as a volunteer and made valuable experiences.
The general lifestyle is very simple, the people in the community decided upon native manners of life which I could gladly share with them. The tasks were meaningful and changed often, so one never had the feeling to be occupied with something needless. The work included the watering of plants, producing and digging of fertilizers, picking fruits, cooking, maintaining the paths, letting the goats graze and enjoying the amazing sight.
There was enough free time and even though it was always really quiet, it never got boring. So there was always enough time to do a hike to a waterfall or up a mountain.
The food is insanely tasty, healthy and always prepared with love. This makes sense since everything is homegrown, which communicates a good way of dealing with the food and eating behaviors. From the beginning onwards I felt very comfortable and learned to enjoy the moment by appreciating silence and the views.
Personally, I can only recommend everyone to make similar experiences!
