Project details
Fancy the beach, sun, salt in your hair, nice people, a workplace with a sea view and that pure holiday feeling? A working holiday in a hostel in Pichilemu is exactly that: the perfect mix of “working” and “holiday”.
If you choose this program place, you will work and live directly at the beautiful sandy beach in Pichilemu. Since 2015 the hostel has been offering bed & breakfast for up to 30 guests in 9 cozy rooms, most of them with view to the ocean.
The trendy hostel with spacious common areas, terraces with sea views, a swimming pool and a great atmosphere is just the right place to warm up after surfing and to chill out with nice people from all over the world.
Within walking distance are supermarket, mini-market, city center and bus station of Pichilemu.
Tasks
Your tasks essentially revolve around the hostel: working at the reception, checking in and checking out guests, preparing breakfast, as well as everything that has to do with cleanliness and order or wherever help is needed.
During work you will have a lot of contact with the guests and get to know nice people from Chile and all over the world. A friendly and courteous demeanor is very important.
The tasks in this program position are diverse and can vary, depending on where you are needed. Please be flexible and helpful.
Your exact working hours will be communicated to you on site and depend on the current bookings, number of volunteers, time of year, etc. The working time is 30-35 hours per week with 2 days off. The hostel works in shifts from Monday to Sunday. Your days off won't necessarily be on the weekend.
Accommodation
During your Working Holiday at the Hostel in Pichilemu, you will be accommodated directly in a room in the hostel. You share the room with other participants or staff. The bathroom is also shared.
For breakfast the ingredients are provided so that you can prepare it yourself in the hostel kitchen.
In the high season, the hostel usually also provides basic necessities such as spices, vinegar, oil, rice or similar. However, we cannot guarantee the availability of these items.
Location
Pichilemu is THE surfing hotspot in Chile. Surfers from all over the world make a pilgrimage here in the Chilean summer to escape the winter weather in the northern hemisphere and to plunge into the waves. There are also often international competitions at professional level.
Most of the hotels, hostels, campsites and surf schools are on the beaches of Pichilemu itself, while Punta de Lobos, the spot for professionals and really good surfers, is about 6 kilometers south.
The colorful town of Pichilemu is located about 200 km or 3 hours by car southwest of the capital Santiago directly on the Pacific.
About 14,000 people actually live here, but this number multiplies in summer. The presence of so many tourists naturally boosts handicrafts, nightlife and a diverse gastronomy for every budget.
Not only surfers spend their holidays in Pichilemu, many families also go there on summer vacation to enjoy the beach and just watch the surfers. All around there are beautiful forests with hiking trails and just a little more than an hour's drive east brings you to the middle of the Colchagua Valley, Chile's top wine-growing region. The area around Santa Cruz attracts with traditional country life, wine tours, horse riding trips and one of the best equipped historical museums in the country.
