Project details
If you like to get to know other cultures, prefer to be in the middle of spectacular nature, like adventure and don't want to be “off the beaten track”, then this working holiday in the popular southern Chilean holiday resort of Pucón is just right for you. Chilean and international tourists come here all year round, but especially in the Chilean summer.
Our working holiday position in Pucón takes place in a well-kept complex with 5 holiday homes (so-called cabañas). The cabañas vary in size and can accommodate 4, 6 or up to 12 guests.
The small holiday complex is located approx. 3.5 km outside the city center of Pucón, in a quiet location surrounded by lovely green nature.
In addition to overnight accommodation, guests are offered excursions such as rafting, volcano climbing, mountain bike tours, trekking, visiting thermal springs, canopy and other outdoor activities.
The friendly team consists of Pilar, the owner, four Chilean employees and the volunteers.
With this program position, you work where others vacation and don't have to travel on your days off for adventure and relaxation because there are plenty of great options waiting for you right on your doorstep!
Tasks
The tasks in this program position vary depending on where you are needed and what you are most interested in. Most of the work takes place in maintaining the cabañas and the spacious gardens.
Working hours are approximately eight hours a day, five days a week. The two days off are not necessarily on the weekend. The work is divided into two shifts: the morning shift from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the late shift from 4:00 p.m. to midnight (subject to change).
Your tasks may include:
- Working at the reception (check-in, check-out, answering telephone calls, looking after guests and advising on excursions)
- Online and direct sales of excursions
- Everything about cleanliness and order
- Gardening
- Other activities that arise
Accommodation
Our working holiday participants live directly on the property of the tourist complex itself. A small cabaña is shared by the working holidaymakers and an employee. In addition to the bedroom, it has a living area with a small kitchen and a bathroom.
Internet in 4G quality is available, you are welcome to use it in your free time.
Volunteers are provided with a subsidy of 100.000 Chilean Pesos per month to buy groceries for their meals.
Location
Pucón is located about 780 km south of the capital Santiago and is THE place to be in the Chilean lake region, popular with Chilean and international tourists alike. From the airport of the regional capital Temuco it is a little more than 100 km to the southeast. Almost 29,000 people live in Pucón, a number that increases significantly in summer. The pretty little town offers an excellent infrastructure, a wide range of restaurants, shopping opportunities, countless excursion options and also nightlife.
Pucón is so popular because the place has an incomparable location and is a wonderful place to combine relaxation with culture, adventure, action and sport. Have you ever climbed a volcano, looked into the seething crater and then slid down on the snow? No problem in Pucón. The resort is located directly at the foot of the Villarrica volcano and also directly on the beach of the lake of the same name. The Villarrica lake offers relaxation, bathing fun and water sports, the volcano attracts mountaineers in summer and skiers in winter and even offers a large cave system that you can explore.
But that's not all: Pucón is surrounded by other small lakes, other volcanoes, countless thermal springs and raging rivers that invite you to go kayaking and rafting. In addition, there are beautiful waterfalls and deep green forests everywhere.
Several national parks and nature reserves offer endless hiking trails through untouched nature and the typical araucaria forests that give the region its name. These majestic endemic trees have existed since the times of the dinosaurs.
The fruits of the araucarias are edible and are an integral part of the menu of the Mapuche, who have their core area here. Many Mapuche families have opened up to tourism and offer tourists an introduction to their culture, cooking, horse riding trips, overnight stays in a ruka and much more.
