Project details
Do you love nightlife and partying? Do you enjoy socializing? Then this working holiday place in Santiago de Chile is perfect for you! This lively, colorful party hostel in the vibrant Bellavista nightlife district is very popular with international backpackers and globetrotters. The hostel is housed in a historic building approximately 100 years old, with a cozy patio (courtyard/garden).
A small art gallery is also located on site. In addition to permanent local staff, the hostel also regularly hosts working holidaymakers from all over the world. The hostel accommodates up to 80 guests, most of whom come from Europe and the USA, which is why English is spoken alongside Spanish.
Since its opening in 2005, the hostel has been a popular meeting place for young and young-at-heart people. All of Santiago's popular attractions are within walking distance. Here, you can have fun while immersing yourself in the historical past of Chile's capital. Historic buildings, grocery stores, restaurants, cafes, craft shops, boutiques and public transportation are within walking distance.
Tasks
Our volunteers participating in the Working Holiday program may work in three different areas. The assignment is determined by the administrator and may change during your stay.
- Housekeeping (cleaning, making beds, etc.); Working hours: approximately 8:00/9:00 to 14:00/15:00
- Reception and laundry; Working hours: approximately 10:00 to 16:00 or 16:00 to 22:00
- Bartending (evenings/nights); Working hours: approximately 19:00 to 2:00
You will work a total of approx. 25 hours per week within the specified hours and have three days off each week. Please note that working hours may vary slightly and days off may not always be consecutive.
Note: Tasks may vary depending on factors such as the number of volunteers, time of year, current project needs, and personal motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all of the tasks listed.
Accommodation
You will live in the hostel itself in a mixed 8-person volunteer room with a bathroom. The hostel manager and volunteer coordinator also live in the hostel.
The hostel does not provide meals, but there are two well-equipped kitchens with cupboard space for your groceries. You can prepare your own meals there.
Every Sunday evening, a barbecue is held in the courtyard for all guests and volunteers.
The internet (W-LAN) and the hostel's facilities can be used outside of your working hours.
Location
Santiago, Chile, is one of the few metropolises in the world where you can actually ask yourself the question: "To the sea today and ski tomorrow, or the other way around?" Because you can reach endless sandy beaches on the Pacific Ocean just as quickly as excellent ski slopes high in the Andes in winter.
Santiago is located exactly in the middle of the country and divides Chile into the fertile south and the arid north. Chile's capital city has every facet you could wish for. On the one hand, you'll find many beautiful places to relax, majestic colonial buildings, and exciting markets, but on the other hand, you'll also find the flair of a modern metropolis. Santiago, with its over 6 million inhabitants, is also the country's economic and political hub.
The hostel, visible from afar due to its brightly painted walls, is not only located in the heart of Santiago, but in Santiago's "party heart," Bellavista. This is where much of Santiago's nightlife takes place, and there's plenty going on during the day too, thanks to museums, cafés, galleries, and many tourists.
The lively neighborhood is colorful and pretty, located right next to the city's largest park, "Cerro San Cristobal," and often quite noisy. Concerts and other artistic events often take place there, handicrafts are found on every corner, and brightly painted, cozy, old houses dominate the landscape. Since several universities are just around the corner, many students also come here—it's the ideal place to meet young Chileans and people from all over the world.
