Project details
With this working holiday program, you live and work directly in the beautiful Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park in the south of the country, not far from the Argentine border. This is even the oldest national park in Chile - it has always impressed with its fairytale landscapes.
The Working Holiday program takes place in a cozy lodge that was founded about 20 years ago. The lodge is situated on the shore of the emerald waters of Todos los Santos Lake with the majestic Osorno Volcano as a backdrop. A sight straight out of a picture book.
The national park is the gateway to a world of volcanoes, rivers, waterfalls, glaciers, and ancient deep green forests, making it a fascinating environment for nature lovers and adventurers. The lodge offers outdoor activities such as trekking, fly fishing, kayaking, rafting and expeditions to the national park.
The lodge has 20 guest rooms, a restaurant and 4 fully equipped cottages. Rustic and cozy as is the style in southern Chile, the lodge is also designed in a country style with beautiful open terraces and a wonderful view of the lake. About 10 employees between the ages of 25 and 55 look after the well-being of the guests.
Tasks
In the Working Holiday program in the lodge in northern Patagonia, the participants have various areas of responsibility. This can include welcoming guests, guest service, helping with excursions as a guide, and working in the restaurant and with cleaning and maintenance work.
Your exact work plan and activities will be discussed on site, considering your skills & experience, strengths, interests, and the needs of the lodge.
The work schedule is approx. 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. The two days off are not necessarily at the weekend, as the hotel industry works in shifts.
Your areas of responsibility include:
- Working at the reception
- Check in / check out
- Guest Services and Tourist Information
- Housekeeping
- Working in the restaurant and bar
- Assisting with translations for foreign guests
- Other activities in hotel operations
- Accompanying the tour guides during the tours (only if needed)
Note: The tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as number of volunteers, weather, season, current needs of the project, as well as self-motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all these tasks.
Accommodation
As a participant in this working holiday program in Chile, you will live in the staff area of the lodge. Depending on availability, you will have your own room or a shared room. There are two large bathrooms, one for men and one for women.
The Working Holiday program includes full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) served in the staff dining room.
WiFi internet is available and can be used outside of working hours.
Location
The lodge is located about 65 km from Puerto Varas on the direct route to Argentina. Puerto Varas is an idyllic place right on Lake Llanquihue and not only fascinates countless tourists, but also many Chilean families have turned their backs on the city of Santiago in recent years to move to the beautiful and unspoilt south.
The lodge itself is located in the middle of the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, on the shores of Lake Todos los Santos, which leads to Argentina.
The Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park is the oldest national park in the country and was founded in August 1926. It has an area of approximately 255,000 hectares of almost untouched nature.
Its territory includes deep green dense Patagonian jungle, raging mountain rivers, huge waterfalls, glaciers, and a magnificent view of the surrounding volcanoes.
The scenic diversity is home to a diverse fauna and has made the park one of the top destinations in the region. Its visitors can not only explore the unique landscape within the park, but also take part in various outdoor activities such as kayaking, rafting, swimming, boat trips, fishing, hiking, climbing, skiing in winter and relaxing in natural thermal pools.
