Project details
Anyone who likes to get to know other cultures, prefers to be right in the middle of the action, likes adventure and doesn't want to be "off the beaten track" is in the right place with this working holiday in the trendy Barrio Italia. Chilean and international tourists flock here all year round. Barrio Italia is located in the beautiful neighborhood of Providencia in Chile's capital, Santiago. The district is famous for its bohemian flair, for its antique dealers, jewelry shops, boutiques of young designers and a whole range of bistros, cafés and restaurants.
Our Working Holiday program takes place in a hostel that is centrally located and has good connections to public transport such as bus and metro. From here you can discover all of Santiago or just hang out in pretty Barrio Italia.
The hostel is still quite new and was established in 2018. It is managed by its lovely owners, Francisca and Ivonne. It has 9 rooms and can accommodate approximately 32 people.
Tasks
The tasks in this program are diverse and can vary, depending on where you are needed. Please be flexible and helpful. Most of the work takes place in the hostel itself, such as working at the reception, doing check-in/check-out, answering emails, etc. What could be nicer than welcoming guests there, being able to give them information and ensuring they feel completely comfortable. The work schedule also includes cleaning and maintenance tasks, such as keeping the common areas tidy and clean and preparing the rooms for new guests (removing the beds, making new linen, etc.).
As is usual in tourism, the work is divided into shifts. Typically, participants work 5-6 hours/day, 5 days a week. The 2 days off do not necessarily have to be on a weekend.
Accommodation
The accommodation takes place directly in the hostel in a shared room with shared bathroom. Meals include non-perishable staples only (note: we cannot guarantee the amount of food or its availability). You can prepare your own meals in the hostel's fully equipped kitchen. There are shops nearby.
The hostel also has a well-functioning internet connection via Wifi which you can use in your free time.
Location
Santiago in Chile is one of the few metropolises in the world where you can actually ask yourself the question: âGo to the sea today and go skiing tomorrow, or the other way around?â. Because you can reach endlessly long sandy beaches on the Pacific just as quickly as excellent ski slopes in the Andes during winter time.
Santiago is almost exactly in the middle of the country and divides Chile into the fertile south and the dry north. The capital of Chile has every facet you could wish for. On the one hand you will find many beautiful places to relax, majestic colonial buildings and exciting markets, but on the other hand also the flair of a modern metropolis. With more than 6 million inhabitants, Santiago is also the economic and political hub of the country.
The hostel is located in the trendy Barrio Italia, which extends around Avenida Italia with lush parks. The Barrio Italia is often the scene of cultural and artistic events, craft markets or music shows.
There are plenty of small boutiques by young designers, cafés, restaurants and old elegant mansions in the area. Students and residents meet in cozy cafes serving local alfajores or in relaxed pubs and wine bars. It's always busy, always something going on and you'll certainly be able to make great and interesting acquaintances very quickly.
