Project details
Welcome to Santiago, the vibrant capital of Chile! The working holiday program is located in the historic city center of Santiago de Chile. In just a few steps you can reach important monuments, impressive buildings, the famous Plaza de Armas and the government building La Moneda. Many other sights are also very easy to reach thanks to the central location and allow you to explore the city's highlights on foot.
The working holiday position takes place in a chic boutique hostel that was founded in 2003. On average, 15 people of different ages work here, all young at heart and interested in intercultural exchange with their international guests. The guests literally come from all over the world, which makes the working holiday position exciting and varied.
The hostel offers modern and comfortable accommodation in various room types, from cozy shared rooms to private double rooms. In total there is space for 90 guests. All rooms are equipped with WiFi, private bathroom and air conditioning.
The hostel also has cozy common rooms for relaxing and chatting with other travelers. In the courtyard there is a spacious terrace with a barbecue area and bar where events take place regularly. The hostel's reception is open 24 hours a day.
Tasks
Participants in the working holiday program are deployed in one of the different work areas. The needs, but also the personal strengths and abilities of the participants are taken into account. For longer stays, the work areas can also rotate.
The tasks are varied and give you a good impression of how a large hostel works, you will get insights in the hospitality sector and what the demands of the guests are.
Working hours are approximately 30 hours per week, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the workload and current needs. Two days per week are free; these do not necessarily be on the weekend.
Responsibilities may include:
- Work at the reception
- Welcoming new guests, showing them around the hostel and showing them their rooms
- Familiarize new guests with the house rules and offers
- Organize leisure activities and events for guests
- Organize game nights, barbecues and other social events for guests and encourage them to participate
- Working at the hostel bar
- Help keep the hostel clean and in order
- Assistance during breakfast time (preparing breakfast, refilling the buffet, etc.)
- Create and update social media content for the hostel
- Other tasks related to hostel operations
Accommodation
Our participants live directly in the hostel in a room with a bunk bed and shared bathroom. The room is specially provided for volunteers and can accommodate two people.
Internet Wi-Fi is available and can be used outside working hours.
The working holiday position includes breakfast in the hostel. You start your morning with a delicious continental breakfast and the smell of coffee in your nose. Lunch and dinner are not included, but the large and fully equipped kitchen is at your disposal to store your groceries and prepare meals.
Location
Santiago de Chile, the capital of Chile, extends into a vast valley surrounded by the majestic mountain panorama of the Andes. The pulsating metropolis combines exciting history, modern architecture and a lively culture to create a unique experience.
The heart of Santiago beats in the historic city center, where numerous sights come together in a small space. The Working Holiday location is right in the middle and is the perfect starting point for exploring Chile's capital through its paces.
As far as the architecture of the city center is concerned, it is an interesting mix of old and new. Colonial style and neoclassical buildings meet here one beside the other and offer visitors an exciting backdrop and architecture lovers a feast for the eyes.
Santiago de Chile is one of the few metropolises in the world where you can actually ask yourself the question: “Going skiing or to the beach today, or the other way around?”. Because you can just as quickly reach eternally long sandy beaches on the Pacific as you can reach excellent ski slopes high up in the Andes in winter.
Chile's capital is located almost exactly in the middle of the country and divides Chile into the fertile south and the dry north. Santiago, with its over 6 million inhabitants, is also the economic and political hub of the country.
