Program details
Get a really deep breath of country air! It's possible with this wonderful Farm Stay project set in the idyllic countryside of southern Chile. Here you can fully immerse yourself in traditional Chilean country life and learn a lot about the culture and traditions. The small family-run farm is beautifully situated in the countryside, surrounded by lush nature and small villages.
The small family ranch offers ample space for recreation and outdoor activities. There is a small guest house for up to 5 people, hot tubs which are great for relaxing in, a camping area, a children's playground, a soccer field, a picnic area and an event room for up to 60 people. The small ranch is popular with day trippers from the area.
The agritourism is run by a local couple who have been dedicated to agritourism for years and offer holidays in the countryside. The adult children come to visit from time to time. Carmen, the owner, conjures up delicious local food. The ranch's animals include cows, sheep, chickens, dogs and cats.
Tasks
The tasks on the farm are varied, interesting and different depending on the season. What exactly needs to be done each day will be discussed with you directly on site.
Of course, you can state your preferences, depending on whether you prefer working with animals or people or how physically fit you are. Depending on the work that needs to be done, the working hours can also vary - animals don't have clocks and don't know when they're off...
Your area of responsibility may include:
- Feeding and caring for the animals
- Lead animals to the stable and back to the pasture
- Stack wood
- Repair work on fences, stables, etc.
- Cutting the lawn
- Sowing and/or harvesting vegetables and herbs (depending on the season)
- Harvesting fruits (depending on the season)
- Helping in the kitchen
- Reception and care of guests
- Other related tasks
Note: The tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as number of volunteers, weather, season, current needs of the project, as well as self-motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all these tasks.
Accommodation
This Farm Stay offers family connection as the ranch owner's home is right on the property.
Volunteers live in their own small cottage with a private bathroom. You are responsible for the cleanliness of the cottage.
Full board is included. The volunteers usually have breakfast themselves in their cottage, lunch and dinner together with the ranch owners.
Location
The ranch is located in idyllic southern Chile, in the Auracania region, which is characterized by extensive forests, mountains, lakes and rivers. In this area, rural life is more authentic than almost anywhere else. Here you will see Huasos riding to work on horseback and notice that the clocks tick much more slowly than in the capital Santiago de Chile, around 1,000 km to the north.
The nearest town, Teodoro Schmidt, is 8 km away and is home to almost 15,000 residents. The next big city and at the same time capital of the region, Temuco with 200,000 inhabitants, is 80 km northeast of the ranch. From there, Santiago can be reached by bus in about 10 hours or by plane in about an hour.
The area around Temuco is known for its beautiful national parks, mountain lakes, picturesque volcanoes, roaring mountain rivers and offers plenty of outdoor sports such as hiking, mountaineering, kayaking and rafting, mountain biking, horseback riding, skiing in winter and cultural activities around the Mapuche Culture. If you love nature and like to spend time in the countryside, this is the place for you.
